Biography

“Music that touches everyone’s heart.”
“Words that transcend language”
“Tunes that linger much after the music has stopped.”

This is how Nivedita defines her music.

Trained in the rigorous discipline of Hindustani (Indian) Classical Music, Nivedita ventures out to World Music, beyond the shore of her formal training as a classical vocalist, but never losing sight of her moors.

Nivedita brings the flavour and depth of Indian Classical Music to the larger audience of the world, even to the uninitiated, by adapting her style and rhythm to contemporary vibes. Versatile as she is, she sings to the diverse settings of Lounge, Celtic, Western Classical, and other genres of International Music.

“Every soul in every corner of the planet should be able to relate to my music in some way,” is how Nivedita approaches her compositions. She uses the non-verbal element of Indian Classical Music to reach out to the larger audience.

“Classical Raagas work both at the conscious and the subliminal level,” says Nivedita. The ears may not detect the grammar of the Raaga, but the heart responds to its call, unfailingly. Nivideta’s songs, mostly based on Classical Raagas and their variants, touch the listener deep inside … her songs linger inside the listener even after the sound has ceased.

Her variety is overwhelming. Sometimes her songs take you by the bank of a roaring river in a dark, haunting, night. Sometimes make you yearn for your lover, sometimes even prod to shake a leg.

Nivedita began performing from the 70s as a child artist at Classical concerts and received acclaimed reviews from the press. Since then, she has been performing live and on TV.  Her training in Hindustani Classical Music in the confluence of Rangeela and Kirana Gharana, and later in Gwalior Gharana sharpened her melodic and cerebral insight of interpreting and creating music.

With musical foundation solid as a rock, Nivedita is not afraid to spread her melodic wings …. and fly … with the limitless azure sky above and the deep blue ocean below.
